About the artist
Cathy Davis’s work combines color, inferred experience, and the assumed expression of living biological creatures (mostly mammals), juxtaposed against a human interpretation.
From the artist: “Certain expressions and colors speak to me loudly enough to require a meditation, a re-interpretation with oil paints as a means to convey the harmony and the face – almost always a face – to deliver the melody. Each distillation follows the last — I am a third generation painter, taught by my mother who was taught by her grandmother, all of us reacting to the structures of our day: handcarts, beauty, conformity, obedience. Each of us burned from our own little sparks of rebellion and each of us edged toward an understanding and expression whose meaning mattered only to us – quoniam res ipsa loquitur.
The thing speaks for itself.
